The Crop-a-dile Big Bite, is it worth it?

Exposed spine using the Crop-a-dile Big Bite

Like many of us, I have many tools, you could say too many. And like most of us, some I use everyday, and some were used once and then put into a drawer, never to be used again.

Two of the tools that I use everyday without fail are by We Are Memory Keepers: the Crop-a-dile and the Corner Chomper. They are both practically glued to my hand (sometimes they actually do end up glued to my hand, but that is a story for another day). So when I wanted to try an exposed, eyeleted spine for three signatures using a five hole pamphlet stitch, I naturally turned to the Crop-A-Dile Big Bite.

This is not your average tool purchase, and when I saw the price (Sale price $39.88), I thought about alternatives. Using a manual eyelet setter was one thing I tried without much success, I can place the eyelet anywhere I want but five out of ten times, I would bring the hammer down only for it slip sideways and leave me with a crookedly set eyelet. ugh!!! Since I would be setting the eyelets after the build was complete, this definitely wasn't an option.

So I bit the bullet and ordered! I have to say that is one of the best tool purchases that I have made as it opens a whole range of possibilities especially if you work with larger folio/journal/ sizes as I do. It also offers a level of precision when creating holes for exposed spines that cannot be achieved with a hand awl.

Overall, I think it is absolutely worth it!
